SUMMARY:Seminar - 'What about men?' Engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women
DESCRIPTION:How do practitioners provide an appealing hook to get men and boys on board with prevention and gender equality while ensuring the work is gender transformative and evidence based? \nWhat are the strategies that can be used to respond to the ongoing resistance and backlash in this work? \nTo engage men and boys in violence prevention\, we must reach them first and then be able to speak to them. \nBut\, how do we do that? DESCRIPTION:What is a community of practice?\nA community of practice is made up of a group of people who come together regularly to share practice stories and insights and engage in critical reflection and discussion. These groups may come together because they have common working environments\, areas of focus\, a passion about a topic\, or similar challenges associated with their work. Communities of practice offer a space for problem solving and support\, to improve individual and collective practice and impact. \nWho is this community of practice for?\nEarly career primary prevention practitioners\, including those who have already completed DVRCV’s foundational ‘Prevention in Practice’ training are strongly encouraged to register for this opportunity. Even if primary prevention work is only part of your role\, this community of practice will be relevant for you. \nWhat happens in a community of practice?\nYou’ll meet with an expert facilitator and the same group of people for three hours one afternoon a month. Do you want to strengthen your specialist knowledge and skills to lead high-level prevention initiatives? If this rings true then our Leading Prevention in Practice course is for you. \nIntroduction\nLeading Prevention in Practice is based on recognised industry standards and will equip emerging practice leaders (mid to senior level) with an advanced level of knowledge and skills required to design\, implement\, evaluate and communicate PVAW initiatives. The industry-standard capabilities for this course are outlined in Preventing Family Violence and Violence Against Women Capability Framework. \nWhat you will learn\nUpon completion of the program you will be equipped to: \n\nlead the design\, implementation and evaluation of high-level evidence-based PVAW programs\ntranslate PVAW theoretical models and frameworks\, and actions into initiatives\napply appropriate partnership models to your PVAW activity\nanalyse\, document and communicate the processes\, impacts and outcomes from programs and initiatives to a variety of audiences including policymakers and the media\ndesign whole of population tailored approaches to meet the needs of working with diverse groups and communities\nprovide leadership\, advocacy and policy reform in the prevention sector\n\nLeading Prevention in Practice includes a range of interactive activities and evidence-based resources and provides opportunities for participants to share ideas\, ask questions\, engage in reflective practice and learn from one other. \nWho is this training for?\n\nMid-level PVAW practitioners with at least 5 years’ experience\, who have a lead role in the design and implementation of high-level PVAW initiatives and projects.\nMid-level PVAW practitioners who are currently or have recently had a lead role in the implementation of a primary prevention of violence against women project.\nAny experienced practitioner keen to deepen their skills and knowledge in prevention program design\, implementation\, evaluation\, communication and advocacy.\n\nThis training will draw upon participants’ current and recent projects as live case studies to help deepen conceptual and practical activities. \n
